Yellow Class

Welcome to Yellow Class

In Yellow Class we try not to sit still for too long! When the children first move up to Year 1 from Green Meadows they do lots of activities that they are familiar with. Year 1 and Year 2 work together on some activities and sometimes they work separately. Yellow Class love listening to stories, thinking up actions for the story and writing our own. We do lots of reading and take it in turns to run our class library session each week.

We love art and making things. We have a ‘creation station’ in the classroom and you can make cars, robots and almost anything you like! Maths is fun especially when it is part of the class shop, post office or cooking.

Year 2 have morning maths to do when they arrive each day and they try to get faster each time. We love finding things out and working out how things work. This term we have made masks and bird feeders. In the autumn we collected apples form the orchard and made apple crumble. When we were thinking about WWII for our school Harvest Service we found an old recipe for carrot cookies that people used to make when sugar was rationed.

Every week we go up to the wood in the school field to our Woodland Club and we often get really muddy. We meet at base camp, find out what we are doing and then go off to do our activities. We love playing hide and seek, blindfold and trust games as well as making dens. We go out every week even if it’s raining, we put on our red waterproof suits and jump in all the puddles! We meet back at base camp for hot chocolate and sing our song to finish.

We have our own area outside the classroom where we look after the garden and use the space for our activities. We love growing plants and looking at the wildlife that visits.

We’ve got a really excellent school’  ‘And really great people in it!
A quote from yellow class when asked what they would tell someone looking at our school.
